The heels of Bette Kane’s shoes clacked against the hard tile floor. Her hips swayed from side to side as she looked at the files before her. Each file contained a dossier on a Meta that she was intending on drafting into her west coast version of…

Beatriz Bonilla DaCosta, the former heroine once known as Fire walked through the automatic glass doors. Her mind dwelt on her past with the Justice League and how her life seemed to fizzle out since the disbandment and reorganization of the team. She came upon the round table where she was told to wait. Three other Metas sat around the table with looks ranging from puzzlement to annoyance. One simply stared blankly at Beartiz as she sat down.

“What are you looking at?” she asked.

The man with red cloak and hour glass etched on his chest did not give a reply right away. He merely examined her for a moment or so before he spoke.

“I am sorry. I was following your time line. I find your future most intriguing,” Hourman said.

“Well find this intriguing you android reject,” Bearitz replied with her middle finger stuck up at him.

“Calm down Beatriz. We all know he’s from the future so he doesn’t know any better,” Atom Smasher said.

“Yeah, well that is no excuse,” Beartiz replied.

After Beartiz finally made herself comfortable, a beautiful blond haired woman walked in with striking blue eyes. She looked at the four people gathered in the room. From left to right were Avatar, Hourman, Fire, and Atom Smasher.

“I’m glad you all could make it. As some of you may or may not know me. My name is Mary Elizabeth Kane or you can call me Bette or Flamebird,” Bette said, “Today commences the first official meeting of Titans West and I would like to extend an offer to all of you to join this new Titans team.”

The group looked at each other and then back at Bette. They didn’t know what to make of the offer. Eventually Al Rothstein spoke up asking her the question on all their minds.

“You’re serious about creating a west coast Titan branch?” Al Rothstein said.

“Yes. I am very much devoted to opening a West Coast branch of the Titans,” Bette said. “In fact I have been using my personal fortune to finish the construction on our new headquarters.”

“You mean we will have our own headquarters like the Titans?” Avatar asked passively.

“Of course, what are the Titans without their tower?” Bette replied. “I hired a construction firm referred to me by a friend. The construction should be done soon.”

“I don’t know. I’ve been down this road before with the JLI and look at how it turned out,” Beatriz said.

“This will be different I assure you. I…” Bette was cut off by an alarm sounding off overhead.

“What is that noise?” Atom Smasher asked.

“It’s the trouble signal and only goes off when a Meta crime is picked up by the base’s super computer,” Flamebird explained as she raced into the next room.

“Super computer…?” Avatar said with a puzzled look on his face as he followed Flamebird and the others into the other room.

Once she took a seat at the computer, it read off a Meta crime in progress.  The location was in San Francisco.

“It looks like the Titans are needed. Are you guys in or not?” Flamebird asked as she slipped her mask on.

The group nodded their consent and followed her to the T-Jet that was prepped and ready for take off.

In the heart of San Francisco…

A man dressed in ancient Egyptian royalty formal wear walked across the streets firing energy blasts from his eyes, as his followers raided the shops and people of their valuables. As he came upon a crowd of people gathered in the street he called for their attention.

“Behold, people of fair San Francisco, I am Pharaoh Trinity the Lord and Master of all that he sets his sights upon. As of this moment everything you own now belongs to me,” Pharaoh Trinity said to the startled crowd.

“Titans together!” Flamebird said as she landed a heel kick on the Pharaoh’s chin.

“Who dares attack my liege?” An aged, bronzed-skinned man said as he appeared in front of Flamebird.

“We do. We are Titans West! And we order you to cease and desist immediately,” Flamebird replied.

“Surely you jest mortal. For I’m Zangi the Mad. The most powerful sorcerer to ever grace the Ten Worlds of Dimension M,” Zangi said as he gathered energy in his hand.

“Watch out!” Avatar said as he leaped in front of the blast. Just in time to save Flamebird’s life.

“Avatar!” Flamebird yelled. A look of worry crossed her face for her comrade before being replaced by anger. “You’ll pay for that buster!”

Flamebird pulled her escrima sticks from their holsters and charged at Zangi. She fought her way through his men with the rest of Titans West following her lead.

“The bigger I get, the more of you guys I smash,” Atom Smasher said as he slapped some of Pharaoh Trinity’s men aside. The legacy of Atom and Cyclotron reveled in the chance to make a name for himself, but not all of the members who are participating in this battle have the same motivation or have the desire to stay.

“I could be doing better things than being here,” Fire thought to herself as she used her pyroplasm to help drive away Pharaoh Trinity’s men. “But then what do I really have that can fill the void inside of me?”

Fire’s attention was diverted when she saw the energy being emitted from Avatar. This meant that Avatar was all revved up for a fight. The super charged youth ran through Trinity’s men like a bowling ball crashing through a stack of bowling pins.

Across from Trinity, Hourman simply batted aside any of Trinity’s men that came at him, as he secured a spot to observe the battle.

As the battle raged on, a dark figure stood upon the tallest building in the city watching the events unfold.

Interlude…

Donna Troy made her way into the temporary base of the Titans, with tears streaking down her cheeks. She looked around finding it abandoned. She had hoped to talk with Dick and Roy about Kyle, but they disappeared along with the rest of the Titans shortly after she heard the news about Kyle.

“Where could they be?” she asked herself.

She lounged around before finally taking a seat on the couch. She pulled out a picture of Kyle and smiled a bit briefly. As she brushed her hand across the picture, she felt an assortment of feelings bubbling forth. Yet, Dick and Roy weren’t there and she had no clue as to where Wally was now. It seemed as though she was going to have to go through this…

alone…

End Interlude…

San Francisco…

The Titans West team surrounded Pharaoh Trinity offering him no chance at escaping. Flamebird approaches with a stern look on her face.

“All this destruction you caused and for what? To stroke your own ego…?” she yelled.

“No, you witless dame. I did it for power. Now taste my burning stare!” Trinity replied as he fired at her.

Hourman used his time vision to rewind the attack back to its point of origin. He then hovered down with a stern look in his synthetic eyes. Trinity stood there shocked and filled with fear that such a being possessed the ability to repel his power. “Your kind has always sickened me,” Hourman said before rendering Trinity unconscious with a simple chop to the side of Trinity’s throat.

“Well, he’s taken care of and so are his goons. Now I’m leaving,” Fire said.

“What? Why?” Flamebird asked.

“Don’t misunderstand me, this, whatever it was, stirred something within me. When you need me again you know how to contact me,” Fire replied before flying off.

Flamebird looked at Atom Smasher and Avatar

“Yeah I have to go to, but if you need my help you know my number Bette,” Atom Smasher said.

“But how will you guys get home, I flew you here?” Flamebird asked.

“I’ll catch a cab, Bette,” Atom Smasher replied.

“Um, I really don’t have a place to stay right now, so… if the Tower is ready… I could use a place to stay,” Avatar said.

“And what about you Hourman are you going to stay?” Flamebird asked as she turned to the android.

“I will be around,” He replied before disappearing.

“Well, come on Avatar, let’s go home,” Flamebird said as her and Avatar headed to the T-Jet.
