Raven let out a shriek as the ball of energy grew ever closer to her. It practically seemed as if the world had slowed to a crawl and she was unable to move or even breathe. The doors behind her rattled and then gave way to the force of Cyborg and Supergirl’s blows.

And as the Titans came in they looked in horror as their friend was about to atomized. Starfire pulled her solar energies together and launched a starbolt, which collided with the death orb and sent it flying through the corner side of the roof. Once outside, it exploded harmlessly in the open air.

Garok looked at the Titans with a look of unrepressed hatred. As he stalked forward, the Titans formed a defensive parameter around Raven ready for battle.

This was it...

The JLI Embassy…

Beast Boy watched the reply of the newscast from yesterday and as he did so he shivered uncontrollably. He got up from the couch and looked at the thermostat and he couldn’t believe the numbers he had it set on.

“One hundred degrees…” Gar murmured. “What the hell is happening with me?”

Gar shivered again and so he made his way to his bedroom to fetch another blanket. After wrapping the other blanket around him, he headed back out into the living room. But before he got to the couch, he passed out.

As he laid there on the ground, a drastic change began to over take him and he started to become animalistic and less human. A tail grew from his back and a pair of arms grew from his sides. These arms either ended with paws with sharp claws or tentacles. His head became misshapen and grew larger as his body expanded and he let out a primal scream as he wrecked the place in his thrashing.

Trigon’s Dimension…

The Titans battled fiercely with the monster that was Garok. Using a series of moves, they managed to keep Garok busy while Raven slipped by unnoticed to where Trigon laid imprisoned. As Raven drew closer she could feel the evil emanating from her father and for a brief moment she pulled away until he spoke.

“Free me, my child,” Trigon said.

“I wouldn’t, but for the fate of this universe and all in it. What choice is there?” Raven replied.

Using her soul self, Raven forced Trigon’s soul free from the sword and he floated above the battle that was being waged between the Titans and Garok. He abruptly stopped and entered the body of Supergirl.

The room was then rocked by the explosion that emanated from Supergirl’s body transforming into a form resembling Trigon’s. He stood to his full height and laughed maniacally at the power that swelled within him now.

“Where were we, Garok?” Trigon asked as he made his way towards his shamed son.

“Your death!” Garok replied as he drew his sword.

The two stalked each other like animals, snarling as they waited to spring on each other with such a feral abandon. As a trace amount of sun light shown through the hole in the roof, the two giants charged each other at speeds that defied physics. Their blows shook the entire castle and rocked the entire planet

Argent maintained a shield around most of the team save for Raven, who watched the battle with an expressionless gaze. Her hated father and half-brother were at each other’s throats with no remorse for the destruction they caused. They cared nothing for the lives that were being endangered. Raven almost felt pity for them.

As the battle started to draw to a close, Trigon started to gain the advantage and Garok started to become desperate. He swung his sword in a downward stroke and Trigon caught it in his out stretched hand. He looked deep into Garok’s eyes and smiled.

“It looks as if your end has come.”

Trigon then rammed his claws into Garok’s chest and ripped out his still beating heart. Blood spewed every where and the innards of Garok were exposed for all to see. Argent felt a wave of nausea at seeing Garok’s exposed insides and her shield faltered as she collapsed to her knees and vomited.

Trigon turned to the Titans with blood dripping from his hand and he walked towards them with an air of regality about his presence. Raven stepped into Trigon’s path and looked into his four eyes with defiance.

“Leave them be.”

“And why should I?” Trigon asked.

“Because, father, they aided me in freeing you from your imprisonment.”

Trigon snorted, “Is that supposed to mean something to me?”

Raven glared at Trigon and crossed her arms, “Don’t you have any sense of honor?”

Trigon shook his head with a smile still apparent on his face.

“What will it take for you to let me and my friends go free?”

Trigon thought for moment with a sideways glance and then he returned his gaze to Raven. An evil smile formed on his face.

“Spend the equivalent of an Earth year here with me and I shall let them go.”

Raven considered it, but Nightwing walked up and protested.

“Don’t even think about it, Raven. This monster already took Supergirl. What’s to say he will allow you to come back?”

“Shut up mortal or I will rend your flesh from your bones.”

“It’s alright. I will stay. But father, you must promise to let Supergirl go.”

“I- have lost too much energy and I cannot freely give this body up. I’m sorry.”

“Surely there is something else you can do?” Raven asked. Her tone had some feeling to it which surprised the others. But what the feeling was they didn’t know.

“I…can give her another body, but it will not be like her own. It will be crafted from the lost ones from a time before.”

Trigon opened a dimensional breach and focused his energies on gathering the dismissed life energies from a time before and crafted a body that very vaguely resembled Matrix’s Supergirl form. As it floated into the room a variation of the Supergirl costume appeared on the body, and Matrix’s consciousness was transferred into the body.

When she opened her blue eyes it was like seeing things for the first time again. The sounds, sights and scents all registered to her now breathable lungs, working eyes and ears. No longer was she a protoplasmic being. She was a being of flesh and blood.

“Supergirl? How do you feel?” Argent asked.

“I-I feel…I can’t describe it.”

“Alive?” Cyborg asked.

A smile graced Supergirl’s face and she nodded.

“I have done my part, so now begone and leave me with my daughter.”

The team started to protest, but a flash of light clouded their vision and they found themselves outside the JLI Embassy.  Supergirl stretched her legs and body as she tried to figure out what her new limits were. She took a small rock and placed it in the palm of her hand and tried to crush it. But she wasn’t able to.

“What? I-I’m powerless?”

“It seems he made you normal.”

“But we won’t know that till I run some tests,” Cyborg said.

“That can wait till morning, Vic. I’m sure we’re all beat,” Arsenal said.

“Alright, I’ll check her out in the morning,” Cyborg replied.

As the Titans started to break up and head towards their rooms inside the embassy, the building shook and a large monster came through the wall. It roared as it stood over the Titans and slapped Argent away as it charged towards Cyborg.

“Vic, look out!” Nightwing cried.

Starfire knocked him out of the way and one of the monster’s giant paws came down and pinned Starfire to the ground. She started bleeding from her shoulder and Nightwing cried out her name as he charged towards her.

“Wing, don’t!” Arsenal said as he started arming his cross bow.

Nightwing evaded the arms that came down at him with acrobatic ease and began his upward ascent where he tossed some flash bangs in the creature’s face and blinded it. The creature let up on Starfire, and Cyborg pulled her away.

Supergirl was over where Argent was lying and checking on her to make sure she was okay. The former Teen Titan was hurt, but Supergirl didn’t know exactly how bad. She cursed herself for not having any powers to help her teammates. All she could do was watch as the battle progressed.

Across from her, Cyborg let loose a sonic blast from his sonic cannon and the creature seemed to be momentarily stunned by it. As he turned up the volume he started to believe that the creature was beginning to weaken, until a spider leg came out of its midsection and struck Cyborg in the right breast. He screamed in pain as it damaged some of his circuitry, which in turn created a feed back throughout his functional systems.

Arsenal launched a bolt from his crossbow and it nailed the creature in the temple. It screamed in pain and lurched forward, with Cyborg stuck on its spider leg. Nightwing threw some electric Night-a-rangs, which shocked the creature giving Arsenal time to reload.

“Come after me, you bastard!”

It turned around and started towards Nightwing and he led it on a merry chase across the grounds to the pool that was located at the back of the building. Once back there, Nightwing jumped into the pool and swam to the other side, hoping that the creature would follow. Arsenal was behind them fighting with his crossbow to get the bolt in it.

As Nightwing cleared the pool and made it to the other side, he dared the creature to come along. It hesitated. While it stood there, Cyborg worked to free himself. It took all of his will power and mechanical strength to free himself. Once he hit the ground, Arsenal grabbed hold of him and started helping him away from the creature.

Nightwing watched them retreat and he kept urging the creature forward as he reached behind him and pulled the electric plugs free from the fuse box. The creature watched him intently before starting to submerge itself and then Nightwing tossed the wires in. The sound of the creature’s scream almost seemed human and the power throughout most of the block went out. When the backup power came on, Nightwing was shocked to find Beast Boy lying in the pool.

“Gar? Gar!

Nightwing started towards the pool, but Starfire flew down and prevented him from jumping in. They both turned away as their friend floated there in the pool.

The next day…

The Titans tended to their injured and their dead. One Gar Logan, a hero through and through. He was perhaps the one-third of the heart of that which had kept the team going, but now he was with his real parents in the Heavenly Above.

“We are here today, to say farewell to Garfield Logan, an honored friend, teammate, and brother. What peace he did not find in life, let him find in Heaven. Amen.”

The Titans shared their tearful farewell. At least the ones that attended. Dick was nowhere to be found. Roy was spending time alone with his daughter. Donna didn’t come because it reminded her too much of what she had lost with Kyle. Wally was beyond devastated at hearing about another death in the family. Already they lost Kyle… now Gar. Though Garth knew him the least he was more then unsure of why Dick and the others continued.

Little did the others realize, that was something their leader was asking himself.

Blüdhaven…

Nightwing sprang from rooftop to rooftop unable to lose the ghosts that were chasing him. First it was Dove, then it was Jericho and now Garfield. He couldn’t count how many times he felt like just giving up. Always in some form one of his friends would turn back up, but the others never did. He kept wondering himself so many times why. It never made any sense.

But then nothing about what he did made sense. He had agreed to bring this team together for a purpose. A purpose to protect the next generation of heroes such as Superboy and the legacy that the team had crafted for itself, but now it seemed that their purpose was becoming a martyr for anyone that was a part of the inner family. It cost them Garfield, and only the lord above knew who they might lose next.

That’s why Nightwing had no idea what he was going to do next, but he hoped tonight god would give him answer…
