STARMAN: STELLAR ALIGNMENT
Written by Curt Fernlund
Introduction by Chris Munn
Ah, Jack Knight, in my humble opinion one of the greatest comic characters of all time. Jack, and really the entire Starman cast, was very much the product of the writer, James Robinson, and it would take someone very talented to continue the character. Mike Franzoni and I are attempting to do so in the pages of JLU's current STARMAN series, but we weren't the first to bring Jack into the world of the JLU Universe.
Nay, that honor went to the site's guiding light and editor-in-chief, Curt Fernlund. Remember how I said it would take someone special to write a character as developed and nuanced as Jack? Well, Curt is one of those rare writers who can take any character and breathe not only new life, but life entirely his own, into them. Collected here are several issues from some of Curt's previous series runs, a few whole and some excerpted to include material specific to Starman. Jack Knight's story, picked from the time before his journey into space, is continued in such a way that it seems like Curt's written the guy his whole life. Between team-ups with the JLA, a romantic encounter with the Black Canary, and a decidedly one-sided fight against the Outsiders, Curt gives Jack a series of adventures that helped form the basis of what Mike and I are doing in his own series. If you're a fan of Starman, a fan of our series, or just a fan of Curt then I implore you to read through this collection.
And let the stars be your destination!
